Westgold Resources to operate two drill rigs at Rover 1

In a keenly anticipated program, Westgold Resources (ASX: WGR) has announced that diamond drilling has now re-commenced at the Rover 1 gold-copper deposit after a prolonged wet season.

Two drill rigs will operate on a 24 hour basis at the Rover Project for most of this calendar year and subject to positive results the company will consider the mobilisation of additional rigs.

Initial drill results are anticipated to commence from around mid-May.

Drilling is aimed at both increasing and upgrading the resource inventory at Rover 1.

Westgold is looking for additional high grade gold-copper systems elsewhere within the company’s highly prospective Rover Project, located in the Northern Territory 100km southwest of Tennant Creek.

At Rover 1, a maiden resource of 1.0 million ounces (gold equivalent) was announced earlier this year.

Initial drilling aims to upgrade a significant portion of the existing resource from inferred to indicated status and also to increase the overall resource base at Rover 1, with particular emphasis on expanding the important higher grade gold and copper zones at the Jupiter, Western and Southern zones.

Scoping studies for mining and processing of the maiden resource will be undertaken in parallel with the new drilling campaign.

Drilling programmes outside of the Rover 1 system will focus on additional regional targets with similar geophysical signatures to that of Rover 1.

Westgold believes that there is excellent potential to discover several new high grade gold-copper systems within the company’s large prospective tenement package.

One immediate target for high grade gold potential is within the Explorer 142 copper-gold system where initial exploration drilling previously identified a strong zone of copper mineralisation, including 20m @ 3.1% Cu, 27m @ 1.2% Cu and 8m @ 3.9% Cu over >120 metres of strike length in similar rock types and alteration to that seen at Rover 1.
