Churchill Mining expects East Kutai Coal Project resource update in August

Churchill Mining PLC (AIM:CHL) said it has been experiencing delays in updating the classifications of the 3.18 billion tonne JORC compliant resource at its East Kutai Coal Project (EKCP) in Indonesia.

1.412 billion tonnes of thermal coal has already been classified (Measured 118Mt, Indicated 322Mt, Inferred 972Mt), while the remaining 1.768 billion tonnes, currently classified as Inferred resource under the JORC, is undergoing a slower than expected update and classification as Indicated and Measured where appropriate.

“Our independent consultants are currently checking through 40,000 metres of drilling and down-hole logs, coupled with approximately 2,500 coal data sets. These inputs along with a full understanding of coal quality are critical to the correlation and benchmarking of all data in readiness for the final JORC modelling,” said Managing Director of Churchill Paul Mazak.

The company is confident the resource will be sufficient to allow the mine to produce the minimum of 20 million tonnes annually for 20 years.

Churchill Mining said it was moving ahead with infrastructure planning for the mine. The company is working on detailed engineering plans for the mine, having completed a field survey of haulage and conveyor routes and holding negotiations on land acquisition. A mine-to-port feasibility study is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
