Eastmain Resources (TSE:ER) announced Wednesday it intersected 6.95 grams per tonne (g/t) gold in the 850 West zone of its Clearwater project, leading the company to believe this zone could be an extension of its gold-bearing Eau Claire deposit at the site.
Assays from an ongoing 25,000 metre drill program on the site returned 6.95 g/t gold over 13.5 metres, including 60.45 g/t gold over 1.5 metres in hole ER11-287 in the 850 West zone.
Highlights from other holes in the 850 West zone included 13.0 g/t gold over 1.5 metres in hole ER11-283, and 4.2 g/t gold over 7.1 metres, including 6.86 g/t gold over 4.3 metres, in hole ER11-284.
Like the Eau Claire deposit, assays at 850 West found significant amounts of tellurium, up to 40.31%. This finding, Eastmain said, leads the company to believe that this zone is part of the same deposit system as Eau Claire.
The Clearwater property, located in the James Bay lowlands of Quebec, covering about 206 square kilometres, is Toronto-based Eastmain's flagship gold property, as it owns a 100% stake.
The current drill program at Clearwater is intended to expand the open pit and underground gold resources at Eau Claire, which has a total of 632,000 ounces in the measured and indicated category, and 1.04 million ounces in the inferred category.
The measured and indicated open pit resource has a grade of 5.72 g/t gold, up to five times higher than the industry average for open pit mining, the company said.
