Junior gold explorer Xmet (CVE:XME) said Tuesday it has started a major stripping and channel sampling program at its Duquesne-Ottoman property, in Quebec, with the first phase of trenching already completed.
The property, which is located 50 kilometres north of Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, consists of 60 claims totalling 928.6 hectares.
Toronto-based Xmet said in a statement the program is designed to expose mineralization and structural controls at the 20-20 and Shaft Zones.
In phase one, roughly 7,000 cubic meters of overburden was excavated in eight trenches, roughly 75 meters long, six meters wide and two meters deep, with four trenches in each of the two zones.
The company said alteration and sulphide mineralization are consistent with features of the zones seen in drill core, and channel samples have been shipped for analysis.
Following assay results, the company plans on starting phase two of trenching, which will expose gold-bearing structures along strike between the trenches to permit detailed sampling, so as to confirm grade continuity along the veins.
Xmet said it plans to carry-out a major diamond drilling program in mid-September, after the trench mapping and sampling program is done.
The Toronto-based company’s shares closed Monday at $0.115 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
