Breakaway Resources (ASX: BRW) has launched a highly anticipated new drilling program to test the potential of a newly identified copper system at the Sandy Creek prospect, which is positioned within the Eloise Exploration Project.
The reason for the excitement surrounding the 3700 reverse circulation and diamond drilling program, is the strategic position 70 kilometres south-east of Cloncurry in the heart of the world-class Cloncurry Mineral District of North West Queensland.
In-fill reverse circulation drilling will be carried out on nominal 50 metre centres to 120 metres depth throughout the existing mineralisation to determine internal continuity and test for potential extensions of the mineralisation along strike.
Diamond drilling will be carried out to test the down-dip potential of the prospect and to establish “platforms” for follow up DHTEM surveying.
Already significant copper-gold mineralisation has been identified which includes intercepts up to 3.51% copper over a 600 metre strike, and down to 120 metres - which importantly - remains open at depth.
Recent drilling highlights at the prospect on nominal 100 metre-spaced sections include:
- 10 metres at 2.0% copper, 0.47g/t gold from 121 metres, including 3 metres at 3.0% copper and 0.92g/t gold;
- 3 metres at 2.2% copper, 0.47g/t gold from 146 metres;
- 9 metres at 1.75% copper, 0.15g/t gold from 139 metres; and
- 13 metres at 1.1% copper, 0.18 g/t gold from 140 metres, including 1 metre at 3.51% copper and 0.14g/t gold.
The first results are due in October.
