OncoSec Medical System’s (OMS) treatment platform treats solid tumours and spares surrounding healthy tissue, avoiding the detrimental effects of current cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy or immunotherapy.
OMS applies short electric impulses to the tumor, causing pores to open in the membrane of cancer cells, which significantly increases the uptake of immunotherapy or chemotherapy into these cells.
The company announced yesterday that its two phase III studies testing its OMS electrochemotherapy treatment for head and neck cancer showed "improved quality of life." The data from an interim analysis are being presented July 22-24 at the 8th International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer in Toronto, Canada.
The trials, HNBE-01 and HNBE-02, tested the company's electrochemotherapy treatment for locally recurrent and second primary squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
Oncosec reported that the data showed the therapy achieved the main goal of the trial to preserve quality of life as compared to surgery, while appearing to be safe and comparable to surgery in terms of achieving local control.
The company said the therapy represents a "viable alternative" to potentially major surgical interventions for the head and neck cancer population, where recurrent tumours usually have a poor prognosis, with a local control rate of 40 to 50 per cent and frequent loss of organ function.

European Uranium wraps up metallurgical drilling program at Kuriskova

European Uranium Resources (CVE:EUU) said Tuesday it has completed its 3-hole drilling program at its Kuriskova Uranium deposit in Slovakia to obtain samples for further metallurgical testing.

The miner said preliminary analysis shows that the program was "successful" in obtaining sufficient sample weight at an "appropriate grade" for testing, as part of the ongoing feasibility study.

The first drill hole was reported last month, with data from the final two holes, LE-K-74 and LE-K-75, announced today.

Hole LE-K-74 intersected 2.9 metres at 0.478% Uranium (eU3O8), including 0.5 metres at 1.847% eU3O8. The company said the two nearest historic holes showed intersections of 3.6 metres at 0.143% eU3O8 and 1.2 metres of 0.519% U3O8.

Meanwhile, hole LE-K-75 hit 2.6 metres at 0.468% eU3O8, including 0.8 metres at 1.212% eU3O8. Two nearby historic holes showed intercepts of 3.0 metres at 1.454% U3O8  and 4.8 metres of 1.453% eU3O8.

The indicated resource from the project, as of April 2011, consists of 28.5 million pounds of U3O8 at a grade of 0.555% U3O8 contained in 2.3 million tonnes.

The property also holds an additional inferred resource of  12.7 million pounds of U3O8 at a grade of 0.185% U3O8 contained in 3.1 million tonnes.

European Uranium said it is continuing to advance "critical" aspects of a feasibility study and environmental impact study for the Kuriskova deposit.

The metallurgical samples collected from the continuing drill program will be tested by French nuclear giant AREVA, a significant shareholder of European Uranium, later in the summer and fall, as part of a technical services agreement between the two parties.

The aim is to optimize the process flow sheet as released in the preliminary feasibility study, which gave Kuriskova a pre-tax internal rate of return of 30.8 percent, and a net present value of $277 million at an eight percent discount rate.

The company is also continuing to conduct surface exploration work on targets within the Kuriskova license area, with the objective of defining drill targets that could lead to an expansion of the current resource.

The company noted that Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico, elected in March, continues to publicly reinforce the message that nuclear power will be a main source of energy for the region in the future.

Construction of Slovakia's fifth nuclear power plant is expected to be completed and operational by 2020, the miner said.

European Uranium is in discussions with regards to securing a production off-take agreement with Slovakia for its project, or a partnership with a Slovak entity.

The company also said Tuesday that work programs for its recently acquired Swedish and Finland Uranium prospects have been designed and will be conducted in late summer and fall of this year.

Implant Sciences adds new distributor in Switzerland for QS-B220 detector device

Security systems supplier Implant Sciences Corp (OTCQB:IMSC) said Monday that it has expanded both the global reach and sales of its new QS-B220 system, adding a new distributor in Switzerland.
This marks the company's first distributor in this country.
The new distributor has purchased a Quantum Sniffer QS-B220 system to use as a demonstration unit.
The QS-B220 is a desktop explosives and drugs trace detector that is currently being evaluated for certification by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for air cargo screening.
Introduced last year, the system is already deployed in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.
"The QS-B220's ease of use, ability to clear rapidly after detection, and large color touch-screen are receiving growing attention from security professionals worldwide," said Implant's VP of global sales and marketing, Dr. Darryl Jones.
"Furthermore, in a world increasingly concerned about radiation safety, Implant Sciences' non-radioactive design is subject to far fewer regulations and restrictions than competing systems.
"We see a bright future for the QS-B220, one that will only get brighter as we secure certifications from government regulatory agencies around the world."
Earlier this month, the supplier of explosives trace detection equipment announced it received a new patent in Russia covering a method of increasing the amount of explosive materials collected from a surface using the company's patented non-contact vortex attractor technology.
Implant develops, manufactures and sells sensors and systems for security, safety, and defense (SS&D) markets.
Its other main device, the QS-H150 portable explosives trace detector, has received Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology designation.
The QS-B220 desktop explosives and drugs trace detector has received a Developmental Testing & Evaluation (DT&E) designation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Shares of the company advanced 3.2 per cent to close at $1.29 Monday.

Stonecap Securities increases price target for Orvana Minerals, "positioned to grow"

Stonecap Securities increased its price target for Orvana Minerals (TSE:ORV) Monday after visiting the miner's flagship EVBC mine in Spain.
The capital markets firm said the gold miner is "positioned to grow", with the company recently releasing June production results from EVBC.
June production at the Spanish mine was 4,976 ounces of gold, 549,000 pounds of copper and 14,000 ounces of silver, at an estimated cash cost of $600 per ounce of gold, net of by-product credits.
Total fiscal third quarter production from the mine was 14,000 ounces of gold, 1,468,000 pounds of copper, and 40,000 ouncse of silver, a "significant improvement" over the second quarter's output of 11,000 ounces of gold, 956,000 pounds of copper and 33,000 ounces of silver, Stonecap said.
On Stonecap's site visit, analyst Christos Doulis observed that the shaft has been completely reamed and is in the final stages of commissioning, as the electrical systems are installed.
The installation of an underground crusher is also expected to increase the throughput capacity of the mine.
Head grades have "consistently improved" at EVBC, the equities research firm said, and, at 3.3 grams per tonne gold, are now in line with run-of-mine forecasts.
"We believe that EVBC has not only turned the corner, but that with the shaft running in early August we should see production improve by ~20% and costs decrease," Doulis wrote in his research note.
"Operations at Orvana’s flagship EVBC continue to improve ahead of the shaft coming on-line and Orvana has had a second month with production of ~5koz Au, at an impressive preliminary cash cost of ~$600/oz."
Stonecap maintained its "outperform" rating on Orvana, and increased the price target to $2.10 from $2.00 previously, compared to its current trading price of 85 cents.
Orvana also owns and runs the Don Mario mine in Bolivia and recently completed a feasibility study and snagged a mine permit from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for its Copperwood copper project in Michigan, U.S.

Gold Resource Corp reports final resource of 1.4 mln gold equivalent ounces for La Arista

Gold Resource Corp. (AMEX:GORO) disclosed Monday its final resource report from drilling data at the company’s La Arista vein system, part of the El Aguila project in the southern state of Oaxaca, Mexico.
The El Aguila project is located 120 kilometres southeast of the capital city of Oaxaca, and is a newly discovered high-grade gold and silver system.
Indicated and inferred resources stood at 1.4 million gold equivalent ounces at a one gram per tonne gold cut-off, confirming the previously announced preliminary results in April.
"We are pleased with the final results of this independent study of our drilling as the analysis confirms the high-grade nature of our deposit at La Arista," chief executive William Reid said in a statement.
"This independent analysis required application of certain constraints and restrictions that we believe make it a more conservative estimate than our original internal estimates."
The El Aguila project declared commercial production in July 2010, and has been in continuous production since that time.
The property consists of 23 contiguous mining concessions in the El Aguila to El Rey project area as well as two adjacent concessions in the Solaga project area covering 60,912-hectares.
Gold Resource said a significant exploration budget for 2012 has been allocated to continue drilling and investigate other targets where high grade precious metal concentrations have been found.
For the quarter that ended March 31, the gold producer made around 30,500 ounces of precious metal gold equivalent from El Aguila, an increase of 308 percent from the first quarter of 2011.
Gold Resource also said earlier in April that its first quarter output was in line with its 2012 outlook for annual production of between 120,000 to 140,000 ounces of gold equivalent.
The resource estimate for La Arista was prepared by the Denver engineering firm of Pincock, Allen & Holt in compliance with NI 43-101, and can be found at: http://www.goldresourcecorp.com

NanoViricides retains consulting firm to expedite first FluCide human trials in Australia

NanoViricides (OTCBB:NNVC) said Monday that it has retained Australian Biologics, a regulatory affairs consulting firm, to coordinate the regulatory review and approval for the first human trials in Australia for its broad-spectrum anti-flu drug, Flucide.
Shares were up 6.36 per cent to 57 cents Monday afternoon.
Australian Biologics will also facilitate clinical trial site/s selection, and the development of the clinical trial agreements.
"We are very pleased to engage Jim and his staff because of their extensive experience in both the regulatory and operational aspects of the clinical trials landscape in Australia,” said NanoViricides CEO, Eugene Seymour.
NanoViricides said that the manager of Australian Biologics, Dr. Jim Ackland, was previously the vice president of the West Coast and Asia Pacific operations for the Biologics Consulting Group.
Biologics Consulting is NanoViricides' U.S. FDA regulatory affairs consulting group.
NanoViricides said it anticipates that it will be able to produce drugs suitable for human clinical trials when renovation of its new facility in Shelton is concluded.
Australian Biologics will also help the drug company study and develop a plan for conducting certain phase 1 and phase 2 human clinical studies in Australia.
NanoViricides announced at the end of June that it raised $5.0 million drawing down on its previously announced registered shelf offering.
The funds give NanoViricides the ability to settle certain testing costs for its anti-influenza drug candidate and to support the costs of additional equipment needed for the production of future clinical batches of its drug candidates.
In early April, the company said that the U.S. health regulator gave a "good roadmap" toward an investigational new drug (IND) application for FluCide at a pre-IND meeting.
The company said it received comments and exchanged a list of questions with the FDA prior to the meeting, and believes the health regulator has given the company a good roadmap for advancing the drug toward an investigational new drug application.
NanoViricides' nanoviricide class of drug candidates are designed to specifically attack enveloped virus particles and to dismantle them.
Drugs are currently being developed against viral diseases such as H1N1 swine flu, H5N1 bird flu, seasonal Influenza, HIV, oral and genital Herpes, and other viral diseases.
The company now has five drug development programs within its pipeline, including FluCide, a drug that works against all forms of influenza such as seasonal and epidemic flus, and HIVCide, a drug that works against the HIV/AIDS virus, which the company says could become a "functional cure" for the disease.

Copper Fox Metals announces $4.03 mln private placement financing

Canadian resource development company Copper Fox Metals (CVE:CUU) announced Monday a $4.03 million private placement unit offering, with proceeds to go toward funding the recently purchased Van Dyke and Sombrero Butte Copper projects and the Schaft Creek feasibility study.
Copper Fox intends to complete a non-brokered private placement of 3,500,000 units at a purchase price of $1.15 per unit, for gross proceeds of $4.03 million.
The company said that Ernesto Echavarria, a director and insider of the company, has committed to participate in 100 per cent of the offering.
Each unit will consist of one company common share and one common share purchase warrant, with each warrant entitling the holder to acquire one more share of Copper Fox at a price of $1.25, within one year of the closing date.
Gross proceeds will also go toward other general operating expenses.
Copper Fox is focused on the exploration and development of the Schaft Creek copper-gold-molybdenum-silver deposit in northwest British Columbia, Canada.
The company is currently working on completing a feasibility study for the project, one of the largest undeveloped copper, gold, molybdenum and silver deposits in North America.
The study is being led by Tetra Tech Wardrop on a minimum 120,000 tonne per day open pit mine, and is anticipated to be completed mid-late summer in 2012.
Earlier this month, the company announced that it will purchase the Van Dyke copper deposit, and Sombrero Butte copper project in Arizona from Bell Copper (CVE:BCU) for $2 million in cash.
Highlights of the deal include a historical resource of 112 million tonnes with an average grade of 0.52 per cent copper, estimated to contain 1.2 billion pounds of copper at the Van Dyke deposit.
Meanwhile, Copper Fox said that the Sombrero Butte property contains several clusters of copper bearing breccia pipes, which elsewhere in the district host economic deposits.
Twenty nine of 34 holes drilled to test eight breccia pipes intersected significant intercepts of copper mineralization over core intervals ranging from two metres to 72 metres with average copper grades from 0.37 to 5.85 per cent.

OncoSec shares rise on phase III study results for head and neck cancer

OncoSec Medical (OTCBB:ONCS) saw its shares rally more than 6 per cent Monday morning after announcing that its two phase III studies testing its OMS electrochemotherapy treatment for head and neck cancer showed "improved quality of life."

The data from an interim analysis are being presented July 22-24 at the 8th International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer in Toronto, Canada.

The trials, HNBE-01 and HNBE-02, tested the company's electrochemotherapy treatment for locally recurrent and second primary squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.

The OMS electrochemotherapy was compared against surgery for quality of life, safety, survival and local control at eight months. Local control is defined as the destruction of the treated tumor without evidence of reappearance at the treatment site.

According to OncoSec, the data showed the therapy achieved the main goal of the trial to preserve quality of life as compared to surgery, while appearing to be safe and comparable to surgery in terms of achieving local control.

OncoSec Medical System’s (OMS) treatment platform treats solid tumours and spared surrounding healthy tissue, avoiding the detrimental effects of current cancer treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy or immunotherapy.

OMS applies short electric impulses to the tumor, causing pores to open in the membrane of cancer cells, which significantly increases the uptake of the chemotherapy into these cells.

The company said the therapy represents a "viable alternative" to potentially major surgical interventions for the head and neck cancer population, where recurrent tumours usually have a poor prognosis, with a local control rate of 40 to 50 per cent and frequent loss of organ function.

"Interim analysis of these two Phase III studies, and the recently released data from the Phase IV study carried out in Europe, has demonstrated that the primary endpoint of maintaining quality of life was achieved," said president and CEO of OncoSec, Punit Dhillon.

"These data strongly support our partnering efforts for the OMS ElectroChemotherapy program."

OncoSec said it is evaluating the regulatory strategy alternatives for the best path to market clearance based on the available phase III and previously announced phase IV data.

At the same time, the company is seeking partnering opportunities as it begins to approach the FDA and other regulatory bodies with product registration plans.

"Despite the early termination of this study, delayed interim analysis of these data clearly demonstrated there was equivalence in safety, local control at eight months and survival between electrochemotherapy and surgery, with a benefit of quality of life and function for patients who received electrochemotherapy," said consulting medical director for OncoSec, Paul Goldfarb, who is also overseeing the phase III studies.

The studies were designed as two open-label trials in which 214 patients were randomized 1:1 between surgery and electrochemotherapy. The primary endpoint of quality of life was measured by the Performance Status Scale for Head and Neck Cancer (PSSHN).

Secondary endpoints were safety, local control at eight months and survival.

The trials were conducted at 22 sites in the United States, Canada, Eastern and Western Europe.

The company said median time to death was "statistically indistinguishable", between surgery at 209 days versus 231 days for electrochemotherapy.

The interim analysis of long-term follow-up data at up to two years indicated there were no safety issues relating to electrochemotherapy, OncoSec added.

In 2007, the Data Montioring Committee overseeing the phase III studies recommended that enrollment be terminated early and the trials halted, citing concerns with efficacy and safety.

The treated patients were followed up to two years to further evaluate safety and efficacy, as per protocol, but no additional data analysis was performed until recently by OncoSec, it said.

Earlier this month, the cancer treatment specialist said it was to start phase II clinical trials for its rare skin cancer treatment at a second site.

A total of up to 15 patients with Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer, will be enrolled at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) for the trials.
The phase II trial was initiated at the University of Washington in January. The study is assessing the effects of increased expression of the interleukin-12 (IL-12) protein in the tumor following treatment with OMS ElectroImmunotherapy.

Digital Shelf Space takes sports instructional DVDs to new heights

Digital Shelf Space (CVE:DSS; OTCQX:DTSRF) is a company that has grown dramatically in the last two years, with its home workout mixed martial arts inspired DVD series, called GSP RUSHFIT, exploding in popularity recently and beating out two top sports instruction brands in its path.
CEO Jeff Sharpe tells Proactive Investors that plans are going "extremely well" with GSP RUSHFIT, which features Mixed Martial Arts welterweight world champion Georges St-Pierre.
Indeed, even with St-Pierre out of the media since last year due to a major injury, the fitness DVDs reached the No. 1 spot on Amazon.com’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) exercise and fitness top rated product list in June. The product has only been listed on the site for six months now.
"We've seen business on Amazon grow month over month, and we saw more volume in June than we did in January, despite the fact that June is typically one of the slowest months of the year in terms of fitness," says Sharpe.
"We definitely validated that it's a product that consumers like, and we are moving up the ladder very quickly."
In terms of customer ratings, the company's GSP RUSHFIT product pulled ahead of Beachbody’s P90x and INSANITY and Zumba, who took in second through fourth place in the exercise and fitness category.
Sharpe also says the DVD series broke the top 10 in sales volume on an hour by hour basis, and is the only product to do so outside of Beachbody and Zumba products, long-time veterans in the space.
The GSP RUSHFIT DVD series was launched in just December of 2010, and can be purchased directly through the GSP RUSHFIT website (www.gsprushfit.com) as well as Amazon.com and through other affiliate sites, and in a number of retail stores across the world.
In Canada, the series is carried by major retailers such as Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT), Future Shop, National Sports, Sport Check, Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) and Canadian Tire (TSE:CTC), and in the U.S. by The Sports Authority and Academy Sports and Outdoors.
Sharpe says he hopes to see even more sales volume as St-Pierre is tentatively scheduled to return and fight for his title in November, the start of the peak retail season, with tons of media hype set to be surrounding the event.
The company's CEO also hopes to see an uptick this fall in international distribution. The GSP RUSHFIT DVD series is already represented in more than 90 countries around the world through its global distribution agreement with Northern Response, with a presence in places like Australia and the Philippines.
One particular extension of the product under the GSP RUSHFIT moniker is also in the works, and is currently still in discussions with St-Pierre's management, says Sharpe. Beachbody went the nutritional supplements route, while Zumba expanded into clothing and instructor certification.
"We are continuing to look at extending the brand with ancillary product development."
If the popular fitness series wasn't enough, Digital Shelf Space has looked to diversify its product portfolio, recently signing an exclusive video production agreement with Golf Experiences, LLC, operator of the PGA TOUR's TOURAcademy.
The company managed to secure 1991 British Open champion and 17-time winner on the PGA Tour, Ian Baker-Finch, to be the host for the new TOURAcademy Home Edition DVD golf instructional series, which should be out "in a matter of weeks in terms of pre-order".
The agreement, which includes the production, marketing, and global distribution of a direct-to-home DVD golf instructional series, will be marketed under the TOURAcademy brand name.
"This DVD series is effectively one of the first of its kind in the space," says Sharpe, “and we are working on it 24/7, with a full rollout plan anticipated similar to what we did for GSP RUSHFIT."
The company finished shooting the golf instructional series in April, and is ideally expected to hit store shelves this fall, through direct agreements and in partnerships with the TOURAcademy.
Sharpe says Digital Shelf Space is also continuing to work with a handful of global brands for partner content deals, and would like to see at least one new agreement signed by the end of the year.
"Deal flow is not our issue by any means - our phone is ringing off the hook," he says.
"We have just got to be really selective with what we choose."
Indeed, it seems that the CEO is not the only one that is more than confident in the "tremendous potential” of the company.

Batero Gold starts drill progam at La Cumbre deposit in Colombia

Batero Gold (CVE:BAT) announced Friday the start of its 2012 diamond drill program at its La Cumbre deposit, part of the company’s Batero-Quinchia gold project in the department of Risaralda, Colombia.
The drill program is planned to include a minimum 2,000 metres and up to 6,000 metres of diamond drilling, including infill, step-out, metallurgical and geotechnical drilling.
The work plan will begin with a single drill rig and will add in a second rig as required.
La Cumbre is one of the three porphyry deposits at the Batero-Quinchia project, and the company said the drill program is part of the 2012 to 2013 work program designed to advance the deposit toward a production decision.
The program will test for the most efficient and cost effective leach processing circuit initially targeting the near and at surface higher-grade oxidized gold mineralization.
The project has an initial NI 43-101 resource estimate of 3.5 million ounces of indicated gold and 2.6 million ounces of inferred gold. The open pit resource estimate is based on a 0.16 grams per tonne (g/t) cut off, with 70 per cent of the project remaining unexplored.
The drill program will target infill drilling to upgrade the indicated mineral resources at La Cumbre to the NI 43-101 compliant measured mineral resource category, and will evaluate potential extensions of the mineral resources.
Existing drill spacing suggests the likelihood that only limited drilling may be required to upgrade the oxidized mineralization to a measured resource category, said Batero.
Highlights from the La Cumbre deposit include at and near surface oxidized gold mineralization grading greater than 1.0 g/t gold in the central core of the deposit, and lateral and vertical continuity of gold mineralization.
Initial gold recovery results at La Cumbre range from 91 to 94 per cent in oxide material, and that topography and location of gold mineralization support a low strip ratio.
The company also discussed further details of its 2012-2013 work program last week, including comprehensive metallurgical testing, geotechnical studies, environmental studies, social baseline studies and permitting, which will determine the optimum starter pit production scenario.
The miner said that it will do step-out drilling to potentially increase oxidized mineralization at La Cumbre’s starter pit location, and additional metallurgical testing, including column leach tests to determine the optimum process flow sheet and to provide additional recovery estimates.
Batero has full ownership of surface rights over the La Cumbre deposit and as it owns 100 per cent of the project, there are no net smelter royalties or back-in rights.
Earlier in July, the company announced that its board approved a shareholder rights plan agreement to protect the company from hostile takeover bids.
Batero is a Canada-based exploration company focused on the exploration and development of its mineral property interest in Colombia.
Shares traded at 45 cents Friday morning.

West Kirkland Mining closes $1.69 mln private placement, Newmont boosts interest

West Kirkland Mining (CVE:WKM) said Friday it closed a $1.69 million private placement financing, consisting of the sale of 4.8 million units at a price of 35 cents each, with Newmont Mining (NYSE:NEM) (TSE:NMC) taking up a large chunk of the offering.
The gold explorer said each unit consists of one company common share and one-half of one common share purchase warrant. A whole purchase warrant entitles the holder to purchase one common share at a cost of 60 cents for a period of 18 months from the closing of the offering.
Newmont Mining's Canadian subsidiary said separately today that it acquired 2.23 million units of the company through this placement, giving Newmont around 13.4 per cent of West Kirkland, including warrants.
West Kirkland said it will use the new funds raised from the private placement toward exploration costs and for general corporate purposes.
The private placement was initially announced in late June.
"West Kirkland will continue its drilling program in the Long Canyon Trend including our high-priority targets on the 12 Mile and Toano properties,” said the company’s vice president of exploration, Michael G. Allen.
"Also, we will commence engineering work, following our recently announced resource estimate, on our TUG project along the Utah-Nevada border."
The company reported at the start of July surface gold at its 12 Mile property, further confirming the potential of its regional development strategy in the Long Canyon Trend, Nevada.
The samples collected from the recently constructed drill pad returned an average grade of 0.33 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 1.00 g/t silver over around 29.0 metres*, in "well oxidized and highly altered rocks."
The gold mineralization, the company said, is in the same stratigraphic position as the TUG deposit located 10 kilometres to the east, and the company plans to add to the TUG gold deposit through regional exploration for near surface gold deposits.
West Kirkland reported that 6.1 meters of samples at 12 Mile oriented normal to structure returned an average of 0.56 g/t gold and 1.2 g/t silver. The company plans to drill around 3,000 metres in the 12 Mile area this year.
The Long Canyon Trend is delineated by the Long Canyon deposit in the south west, and TUG deposit 65 kilometers to the north east. The company holds a majority land position between the two deposits.
In early June, the company released a resource estimate for TUG of an inferred mineral resource of 679,000 gold equivalent ounces, using a cut-off grade of 0.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold*.
The brokers of the private placement financing, PI Financial and Cormark Securities, have received a cash commission of $133,635, representing 7 per cent of the gross proceeds of the offering plus additional fees, the miner said.
Shares were up 12 per cent, trading at 28 cents Friday morning.
Data, Verification, Quality Control and Assurance
Julie Selway, Ph.D., P.Geo, a Senior Geologist with Caracle Creek International Consulting (APGO#0738) and an independent Qualified Person, verified the analytical data used to create the inferred mineral resource estimate. Sherri Hodder, P. Geo, a geologist with Caracle Creek, has visited the property.
Michael G. Allen, Vice President of Exploration for West Kirkland, and a qualified person as defined by NI 43-101, has reviewed and approved the technical information in this news release other than the inferred mineral resource estimate, including but not limited to the plans of the Company. He is the non-independent qualified person for the purpose of this news release.

Quantum Rare Earth inks joint venture deal for Australian properties

Quantum Rare Earth Developments Corp. (CVE:QRE) reported Thursday that it has finalized the option agreement for its Australian properties, and entered into a joint venture.
The Australian properties consist of the Jungle well project, which rests about 40 kilometres west of the town of Leonora, and Laverton, which is located about 45 km north of Lynas Corp's Mount Weld rare earth mine.
Quantum embarked on a surface exploration program in 2011 on the Jungle well property, and snagged a total of 10 grab samples which revealed highly elevated total rare earth oxides.
The grab samples had values of 0.93 per cent to 12.80 per cent total rare earth oxides (TREO).
Under the terms of an option agreement from last September, the precious metals and rare earth explorer said it granted Florella Holdings the right to earn an 80 per cent stake in the properties.
Florella has doled out a portion of its stake to Victory Mines, which is an Australian company presently wrapping up its initial public offering on the Australian Stock Exchange.
Quantum and one of its subsidiaries, Northeast Minerals, has now struck a joint venture contract and also a sale agreement with Victory and Florella regarding the properties.
As part of the deal, Quantum will retain a 20 per cent stake in the properties, while Florella will hold a 10 per cent interest, and Victory will earn a 70 per cent stake on certain conditions.
Quantum said Victory is required to reimburse the company for costs incurred during exploration work carried out in the summer of 2011, estimated at around A$100,000.
Victory will also shell-out 3.75 million common shares to Quantum. Quantum expects the issued shares, which are subject to escrow provisions, will be released in about 12 months time after Victory’s public offering.
Quantum is an exploration company with a focus on seeking out potentially economic deposits of niobium and rare earth elements in North America and elsewhere in the world.
Earlier this year, the company updated its resource for its Elk Creek niobium rare earth element project in southeastern Nebraska.
The company unveiled a significant boost in resources at Elk Creek, adding a higher grade indicated resource of 19.3 million tonnes grading 0.67 per cent niobium, at a 0.4 per cent niobium cut-off grade, for 129,182 contained niobium oxide tonnes.
Meanwhile, inferred resources increased from 80.1 million tonnes grading 0.62 per cent niobium to 83.3 million tonnes grading 0.63 per cent niobium for 523,844 tonnes of contained niobium oxide.
The resource update was the result of an additional three holes completed by the company at the Elk Creek niobium deposit in 2011.
The deposit remains open to the east, west and at depth, and is hosted by the Elk Creek Carbonatite, which is an intrusive complex of carbonatite and related rocks.
The property was held under an option agreement during the 1970s and 1980s by Molycorp Inc., at which time considerable exploration took place.

International Tower Hill boosts private placement by over $4 mln

International Tower Hill Mines (TSE:ITH)(NYSE MKT:THM)(AMEX:THM) said Thursday it raised the amount of its non-brokered private placement financing announced earlier this month by more than $4 million.

The first stage of the two trance offering will now consist of up to 9.46 million common shares of the company at a price of C$2.60 each for increased gross proceeds of up to C$24.6 million.

Previously, the first stage of the financing was set at up to 7.69 million common shares for up to C$20 million in proceed.

This portion of the financing is anticipated to close in early August.

The second stage of the offering, which remains the same, will consist of a number of common shares that, when valued at a price equal to a 10 per cent discount from the five day volume weighted average price as at September 10, will equal up to C$5 million.

This has been alloted a maximum of $3.0 million shares, the miner said.

The company also said that despite the second portion being priced 60 days after the announcement of the financing, the single investor in the latter stage has committed to purchasing C$5 million in the first stage of the offering as well as to close the second part of the transaction.

The second tranche is anticipated to close before September 21.

International Tower Hill said it expects that certain insiders of the company will participate in the offering, which remains subject to regulatory approvals.

The company plans on using the new funds to complete its bankable feasibility study at the Livengood gold project in Alaska, as well as for general working capital purposes.

Late last month, the gold miner announced that Jeffrey A. Pontius will assume the role of interim chief executive officer until a new candidate is selected by the company’s board of directors.

Pontius is currently a director of the mining company, and was the founder and former CEO of International Tower Hill Mines from August 2006 to May 2011.

As interim CEO, Pontius will direct the company through the final stages of optimization at the Livengood project, and will oversee corporate development activities.

International Tower Hill Mines controls a 100 per cent interest in the Livengood gold project located north of Fairbanks, Alaska, that has a resource size of 16.5 million ounces in the measured and indicated categories plus 4.1 million ounces in the inferred category.

In June, the company said it decided that the "most efficient and cost-effective" path to permitting the project is to incorporate results from current engineering and metallurgical test work directly into a definitive feasibility study - which the company expects to complete in the first half of next year.

The gold miner also implemented a cost reduction program, which assessed "financial de-risking options", it said, including possible joint venture opportunities, for the development of the Livengood property.

As a result, the company decided to postpone much of its district-wide exploration drilling program started in May, and cut a portion of its condemnation drill program.

The mineral explorer will focus on completing all the necessary field work and drilling to support the feasibility study as well as the environmental work needed to keep the permitting schedule on track.

Selwyn Resources up on initial agreement with Kaska communities in Yukon

Selwyn Resources (CVE:SWN) said Thursday it has inked an interim agreement with Ross River Dena Council and the Liard First Nation on behalf of all Kaska communities, in an effort to establish a relationship as it advances its flagship project in the Yukon.
The Kaska First Nation communities in the Yukon include Daylu Dena Council, Kwadacha, and Dease River First Nation.
The Selwyn project in the Yukon is being developed by Selwyn Chihong Mining, the joint venture company formed by Selwyn and Chihong Canada Mining in August 2010 to develop the property.
The project is located in eastern Yukon, straddling the border with the Northwest Territories.
"Selwyn Chihong is encouraged by this significant step forward in our relationship with the Kaska," said Selwyn’s vice president of environment and community affairs, Justin Himmelright.
"The Interim Measures Agreement establishes the framework for SCML and the Kaska to work to advance the project through final feasibility, permitting, and into construction.”
Selwyn said that it expects to begin negotiations of a socio-economic participation agreement very soon, which will help guide their relationship for the operations phase of the  project - adressing environmental and social concerns as well as Kaska involvement opportunities.
"This Interim Measures Agreement is an important first step in terms of the relationship," said the Liard First Nation Chief, Liard McMillan.
"It governs how the Kaska will be engaged during the exploration and feasibility discovery phase of the Project."
In January 2007, Selwyn completed a preliminary economic assessment (PEA) for the Yukon project, which considered an open pit plan of mining at 20,000 tonnes per day.
Since the initial PEA was prepared, however, there have been significant movements in exchange rates, as well as in metal prices and capital and operating cost assumptions, rendering the PEA no longer viable.
Earlier in May, Selwyn announced an updated mineral resource estimate for its XY West deposit at the project, highlighting the expansion of its inferred category resources to 12.75 million tonnes grading 4.42% zinc and 1.40% lead.
The updated NI 43-101 report included drill results from the 2010 and 2011 definition drilling and exploration work programs at the XY West deposit.
Selwyn noted that the XY West deposit is a key component due to its close proximity to the adjacent XY Central deposit, which has an inferred mineral resource of 44.11 million tonnes grading 4.10% zinc and 1.29% lead.
The updated 12.75 million tonne inferred estimate for XY West used a base case 2.0% zinc cut-off grade, and includes 3.27 million tonnes of higher grade zinc-lead mineralization grading 7.71% zinc and 2.23% lead at a 5% zinc cut-off grade.
Since acquiring the Selwyn project in 2005, the company said it has made nine major deposit discoveries that are potentially amenable to open pit and/or underground mining methods, with all of the deposits remaining open for expansion.
The total indicated mineral resources at the Selwyn project are 180.69 million tonnes grading 5.25% zinc and 1.83% lead for a metal content of 20.91 billion pounds of zinc and 7.30 billion pounds of lead.
The inferred mineral resources have increased to 226.88 million tonnes grading 4.44% zinc and 1.37% lead for a metal content of 22.23 billion pounds of zinc and 6.84 billion pounds of lead.
Selwyn also released additional drill results from the Don Connector target at its Selwyn project in May, including hole DON-233, which intersected 27.85 metres true thickness, grading 6.09% zinc and 1.87% lead, including 10.87 metres grading 8.95% zinc and 2.62% lead.
Shares of Selwyn increased 5.88 per cent to 9 cents Thursday afternoon.

Avrupa Minerals and Blackheath start exploration at Covas JV

Avrupa Minerals (CVE:AVU) said after markets closed Wednesday that work will start on its 2012 exploration program at the Covas tungsten-gold joint venture project in northern Portugal.

Blackheath Resources (CVE:BHR) has a two-stage option to earn into 70 per cent of the joint venture, by spending one million euros by March of 2014.

Blackheath can earn a further 15 per cent by funding the completion of a pre-feasibility study by March 20, 2016.

The work program anticipated will include compilation of existing data and surface work, including detailed mapping and sampling of certain anomalous areas, to be followed by trenching and a diamond drilling program, Avrupa said.

Previously, the company outlined a number of tungsten targets, as well as a potential gold target within the Covas project area.

Covas is a past producer of tungsten and historic resources on the property have been estimated at 922,900 tonnes of 0.78% tungsten trioxide, with mineralization open to expansion.

This historical resource was calculated by Union Carbide Corporation in the early 1980s.

Avrupa said it has not completed sufficient work to validate the information, although it is considered to be "reliable and relevant."

"We are pleased for the start-up of the 2012 exploration program and look forward to working with the Blackheath team," said president and CEO of Avrupa, Paul W. Kuhn.

"Avrupa has compiled a strong tungsten and gold target inventory at Covas, and with the joint venture funding and expertise provided by Blackheath, we anticipate positive progress on the project.

"The Covas JV is further indication that Avrupa's prospect generator business model continues to flourish."

Blackheath Resources is a recently listed company focused on tungsten exploration in Portugal.

Avrupa is a junior explorer using a prospect generator model, for mineral deposits in Europe, including Portugal, Kosovo, and Germany.

The company has a portfolio of exploration projects including copper and zinc in southern Portugal, tungsten and gold in northern Portugal, and silver lead, zinc and copper and gold in Kosovo.

It now holds 15 exploration licenses in three European countries, including eight in Portugal covering 2,532 square kilometres, six in Kosovo covering 198 square kilometres, and one in Germany covering 307 square kilometres.

The company operates two joint ventures in Portugal.

Northern Vertex reports further encouraging underground channel samples from Moss

Northern Vertex Mining (CVE:NEE) (OTCQX:NHVCF) unveiled Thursday additional results from historic underground workings at the Moss gold-silver project in Mohave County, northwestern Arizona.

Channel samples were  taken at 5-foot intervals across the 'back' of drifts and  cross-cuts on the minus 60 level in the vicinity of the property's Allen Shaft.

The company said the underground channel samples returned consistent and greater than 1.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold equivalent grades over broad intervals.

"Assays  continue to demonstrate excellent continuity of mineralization both  along and across the Moss Gold-Silver structure," said chief geologist, Dr. Bob Thompson.

"The consistent 1.5+  gpt gold equivalent grades returned further demonstrate the remarkable  uniformity of the Moss stockwork vein Gold-Silver system both on strike and at depth.

"Establishing continuity of grades along tunnels (drifts)  and sub-drifts will play an important factor in future mine planning  and development."

Highlights of the results included 6.1 metres of 1.98 g/t gold equivalent, 13.72 metres of 1.92 g/t gold equivalent including 1.52 metres of 6.03 g/t gold equivalent, and 12.19 metres of 1.75 g/t gold equivalent.

The company noted that underground sampling is continuing at the Moss  project, and additional results from the program are  expected in the near future.

Northern Vertex has the right to earn a 70 per cent interest in the historic  Moss property, located in Mohave County, Arizona from  Patriot Gold Corp (PINK:PGOL).

Earlier this month, the company announced initial results from channel samples taken underground at its Moss project returning grades of gold equivalents ranging from 1.81 g/t to 5.60 g/t.

TrueContext Mobile says ProntoForms app improves RentoKil's customer service

Mobile business apps company TrueContext Mobile Solutions (CVE:TMN) said Thursday it has published a case study on how its ProntoForms app has "improved the quality control and customer service procedures" of global pest control business RentoKil.

"We have an excellent QA program that evaluates the work of our team, but the administration side simply couldn't keep up," explains Rentokil North American director of customer service, Paul Kamzelski.

"Each operation manager had to spend a couple of hours inputting audit information every week from paper forms; it wasn't easy to get them to buy in.

"Our team has really taken to using ProntoForms. Morale has also improved, as ProntoForms has led to workers being more willing to go ahead and conduct audits."

Indeed, the ProntoForms mobile app does away with paperwork and redundant data entry, allowing field workers to fill business forms out of the office from all major device platforms such as Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad, RIM's (NASDAQ:RIMM)(TSE:RIM) Blackberry, Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android platform and Microsoft's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Mobile platform.

The simple to add app, is meant to improve overall business productivity, and allows users in the field to create forms, generate reports, as well as capture signatures and photos within minutes.

The app is used by more than 1,800 businesses, and is connected to back office systems.

RentoKil has a presence in over 40 countries through its multiple brands in the pest control industry. The firm conducts thorough account audits that require extensive data record-keeping, TrueContext said.

"The Rentokil case study is a prime example of how ProntoForms can accomplish these elements for big business," said TrueContext CEO and founder, Alvaro Pombo.

"Rentokil, like many global enterprises, was considering a custom-built MEAP (Mobile Enterprise Application Platform) solution. However, the complexity and costs of building and maintaining a solution to adapt to different departments across a global operation are staggering, as compared to a customizable, packaged solution like ProntoForms."

The company said that enterprise size businesses often deploy ProntoForms within a division or specific function to demonstrate initial ROI.

"Once deployed, ProntoForms typically experiences growth within existing accounts, prompting divisional and operations executives to rapidly deploy it into other business segments."

Southern Arc gains 100% of Sabalong property after Vale withdraws, more drilling begins

Southern Arc Minerals (CVE:SA) (OTCQX:SOACF) provided Thursday an update on activities at its Sabalong property in Indonesia, where it has now gained a 100 per cent interest following Vale's decision to withdraw from their partnership at the site.

The two companies completed three diamond drill holes at the property to test potential porphry targets that had been defined by geological surveys, which intersected "weakly altered intrusions and volcanics with no significant porphyry copper mineralization", Southern Arc said.

With phase 1 exploration complete, Vale decided not to proceed to phase 2 and has withdrawn from the Sabalong project, the company added.

Southern Arc, with a 100 per cent economic interest, is now proceeding with a drill program to test epithermal gold vein targets in the Toyang prospect as defined by historical exploration work done by Newmont, Rio Tinto Zinc and the company itself.

Earlier this week, the company said it started a drill program of up to 2,000 metres to test the upper parts of the Toyang quartz vein system. The Toyang prospect comprises a 2.5 plus kilometre northeast trending structural zone with three main mineralized zones including the Gempang Budi, Olat Toyang and Labangkang targets.

Shallow scout drilling by Rio Tinto in 1997 reported "encouraging drill intersections", Southern Arc said, including 8 metres at 11.50 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, 32 metres at 3.50 g/t gold and 28 metres at 1.49 g/t gold.

These drill intersections all lie within a 1.0 kilometre long, greater than 0.1 g/t gold soil anomaly as defined by Rio Tinto grid soil sampling, the miner said.

"While management does not have all of the information required to confirm the QA/QC process for the RTZ [Rio Tinto Zinc] drilling, Southern Arc believes the RTZ drill intersections are indicative of the potential in the area."

More recent surface channel sampling by Southern Arc has confirmed the levels of mineralization, it insisted, with surface channel sampling results including 4 metres at 7.23 g/t gold, 4 metres at 6.79 g/t gold and 10 metres at 5.91 g/t gold.

Meanwhile, Vale remains a partner at the East Elang project, in which Vale can earn a 75 per cent interest by advancing the property to bankable feasibility study, with a minium phase 1 expense of US$1.2 million within one year from the date on which Southern Arc gets a permit from the Minister of Forestry.

Southern Arc was granted a mining business license for East Elang in December 2009, but exploration has been deferred at the site pending reclassification of the property's forestry status.

Application has been made to the regency authorities for suspension of the mining license until the reclassification process has been completed, ensuring that both partners have enough time to evaluate the property once exploration begins, they said.

Shares of Southern Arc last traded at 24 cents on the TSX Venture Exchange.
The Canadian mineral exploration company's portfolio includes four exploration projects with epithermal gold and copper -gold porphyry prospects on the Lombok and Sumbawa islands in Indonesia. Its key exploration property is its West Lombok project, with several gold-rich copper porphyry and epithermal gold vein prospects.

PacificOre Mining appoints vanadium sector veteran Josh Kalter to advisory board

Iron ore, vanadium and titanium miner PacificOre Mining Corp. (CVE:PC)(OTCQX:APAFF) announced the appointment of Josh Kalter to the company’s advisory board Wednesday.
"Josh is one of the Vanadium sector’s foremost leaders," said the chairman of PacificOre, Prestige Mining and Power Vanadium, Patrick D. O’Brien.
"His participation in our goal of bringing the Lac Dore and Iron-T projects to production is a key strategic move as we now move to build a very strong global team. Other very key international appointments are pending."
Shares were up 16.67 per cent to 7 cents Wednesday afternoon.
Kalter brings PacificOre and its subsidiaries, Prestige Mining, and Power Vanadium, experience and contacts as PacificOre is in the process of strengthening its management and advisory team.
Kalter purchased the operations of Canada’s Masterloy Products company in April 2010.
The company converts vanadium and molybdenum oxides into ferrovanadium and ferromolybdenum, respectively. The plant has a history of supplying the steel industry with its ferroalloy needs.
In January 2009, Kalter began an investment banking group for The Dalmore Group that raises funds for junior mining operations across the globe. Prior to this, in May 2004, he established Network Metals, a metals, ores, and alloys import and distribution company.
He has experience with the set-up and management of hedging programs for LME and Comex - matched with physical trading of non-ferrous metals and concentrates.
He has also worked in New York and London for international commodity firms, Philipp Brothers and Metallgesellschaft.
"The Iron T and Lac Dore projects offer the markets intriguing possibilities and I am happy to lend my expertise towards bringing those projects into production," said Kalter.
PacificOre owns and controls a number of vanadium assets in North America. The company changed its name at the end of May from Apella Resources.
The move was part of the company's global corporate strategy to boost its marketability and branding worldwide.
The company said the aim is to "clearly distinguish the company from existing and potential competitors in the iron ore, vanadium and titanium space."
Earlier this year, the miner decided on a strategy of placing three of its vanadium-iron-titanium assets - the Lac Dore/Lac Dore North project, the Iron-T project and the Game Changer project - into wholly-owned subsidiaries dedicated primarily to that particular asset.
In April, PacificOre announced that exploration work at its Lac Dore iron-titanium and vanadium property was progressing right on schedule.
The Lac Dore project consists of 42 contiguous mineral claims covering an area of 1.6 million acres located in the Rinfret and Lemoine townships, 70 kilometres south-east of the town of Chibougamau, Quebec.
The company expects the first phase or two of diamond drilling, upon completion, to bring the Lac Dore Project to pre-feasibility study level.

Homestake closes first tranche of equity funding, to shortly start exploration at flagship project

Canadian exploration company Homestake Resource (CVE:HSR) announced Wednesday that it has closed the first tranche of its non-brokered private placement for gross proceeds of just over $1.0 million.
The first tranche of the total private placement of 10 million common flow-through shares and 10 million units was closed after the company issued 2.7 million flow-through shares and 1.9 milllion non flow-through Units.
Each flow-through share is priced at 25 cents per share, and each non flow-through unit has a cost of 20 cents each.
Each unit is made up of one common share and one share purchase warrant, with each whole warrant entitling the purchase of another share at a price of 30 cents for a 36 month period.
Homestake expects to use the new funds to finance Canadian exploration expenses at the company's Homestake Ridge and Kinskuch projects in British Columbia, Canada in 2012 to 2013.
The company is currently in final preparations for the start of the 2012 exploration season at the Homestake Ridge project, with mobilization scheduled for the last week of July, and drilling expected to begin in early August, continuing into the Fall.
Drilling on the Homestake Ridge project in 2012 will outline the extent of mineralization discovered in 2011 at the South Reef deposit, which is located roughly 800 metres to the southwest of the Homestake Silver deposit.
The planned holes will offset three holes from the 2011 program that tested a 75 metre strike-length of the mineralized trend to depths of 260 metres, and intersected more than 30 grams per tonne (g/t) gold in each hole, including a 3.1 metre interval averaging 30.8 g/t gold and 3.3 g/t silver from drill hole HR11-232.
The company said drilling will target much of the 1.2 kilometre strike length of this newly identified, mineralized zone, which represents the third high-grade gold/silver deposit discovered in this district.
Mineralization remains open at depth and along the full strike-length of the target horizon, the company said, which is equal to the cumulative strike-length of the previously delineated Main Homestake and Homestake Silver deposits.
The Homestake Ridge project in northwestern British Columbia is being advanced as a potential high-grade underground mining operation with a current NI 43-101 compliant indicated resource, at a 3.0 g/t gold equivalent cut-off, of 191,000 ounces gold and 1.35 million ounces of silver. It also has an inferred resource of 530,000 ounces gold and 13.47 million ounces of silver.
Two deposits have been delineated to date, with a third, South Reef, discovered late in 2011.
Homestake also holds an option to acquire the 623-square-kilometre Kinskuch project located adjacent to, and to the southeast of the company’s Homestake Ridge project.
A defined resource at South Reef and possibly at Kinskuch, together with any new discoveries, will add to the NI 43-101 compliant resources at the two deposits already delineated at the Homestake Ridge property.
