Indian Energy fully commissions Theni wind farm ahead of schedule

India based wind farm operator Indian Energy (LON:IEL) has fully commissioned its 16.5 MW (megawatt) wind farm at Theni together with the associated substation.

The project, which has been constructed by Regen Powertech, consists of eleven 1.5 MW turbines. Eight of the turbines and substations were completed on 30 June and the first three were commissioned in February.

Indian Energy has entered in to a 20 year power purchase agreement with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) for the sale of the power generated from the first 3 turbines at a rate of Rs. 3.39 per kWh (kilowatt per hour), expecting to enter into a similar agreement with the TNEB for the remaining right turbines shortly.
The first 4.5 MW of the project have been granted approval under the Generation Base Incentive Scheme to earn an additional Rs. 0.50 per kWh. The group anticipates the same approval for the final twelve 12 MW to be granted in short tem.
