Diversified mineral explorer, Aurora Minerals (ASX: ARM) has discovered more high grade manganese at Capricorn Southeast prospect in Central Western Australia.
With current assay grades running from 30 to 56.5% Mn from rock chip samples within the West of Road prospect, and exploration only commencing in November 2008, Aurora has hit the ground running at Capricorn.
A number of high grade massive manganese oxide occurrences have been identified as a series of multiple bands.
Previously, in January 2009, Aurora discovered significant zones of outcropping manganese mineralisation returned rock-chip samples of up to 47% Mn.
Follow up work in April/May 2009 uncovered high grade manganese outcrops over a 15km strike east of the main Mount Augustus to Dooley Downs road. Channel sampling across the Mango 9 prospect averaged 40.4% Mn over a 16m section, including 6m averaging 51.8% Mn, and at the Mango 4 prospect averaged 33.5% Mn over a 10m section.
High grade manganese assays continue to be received from the 34km strike explored to date. The results have shown there are three parallel mineralised strike zones containing high grade manganese identified in West of Road area.
Further prospecting of these and in the gaps between traverses is expected to identify additional targets for detailed follow-up in July 2009.
Next phase prospecting is underway at East of the Road prospect - results due shortly.
The steady flow of news from Capricorn Southeast project, approximately 950kms north of Perth, Western Australia in coming months should focus attention on the high grade manganese potential and extent of mineralisation at the prospect.
