Northern Ireland operating gold mine developer Galantas Gold Corporation (AIM & TSX-V: GAL) has added 13 new exploration targets following 2009’s exploration program in Counry Tyrone and County Fermanagh. The work was conducted by wholly owned subsidiary Omagh Minerals Limited (OML). The total number of targets for follow-up exploration has now risen to 122.
OML also owns and operates an open pit gold mine near Omagh in Co Tyrone.
OML covered 180 kilometres on its three licenses, with infill soil sampling and conventional prospecting. The programme also tested coincident targets identified from previous third party prospecting and from data gathered by the Tellus exploration program. Tellus was a government-funded regional exploration program which recently covered the whole of Northern Ireland.
The published highlights of the OML report were coded by Galantas for commercial confidentiality purposes.
Among the highlights of the OML report, the A1 location on the OM 1/03 license is a prospecting stream containing a 425m boulder train. In September 2009, Galantas reported 8 float samples which contained more than 0.5 grams per tonne gold and peak values of 20.7 grams per tonne gold and 79.6 grams per tonne silver.
Detailed prospecting has now confined the target to a particular stretch of the stream, which is where future exploration will be focused.
On the G1 location, OML are prospecting a stream bed north of the Omagh mine site, where a number of soil and deep overburden gold anomalies have previously been found. Stream beds were re-sampled and 19 samples were submitted for assay of which 7 assayed greater than 1 grams per tonne gold with the highest being 40 grams per tonne. In addition to confirming historical sampling data, gold-bearing boulders were also discovered in previously un-sampled stream beds 1.5 kilometres to the northwest.
Elsewhere further prospecting is planned on location H1, following reconnaissance prospecting in a stream, whose sediments contained anomalously high gold values. Over 60% of the OM 2/08 license has been covered with regional soil sampling with several targets defined, both in-soil and in-stream samples providing the basis for future exploration targets. http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/11944/galantas-gold-extends-follow-up-exploration-program-with-13-new-targets-in-nireland-11944.html
