Legend Mining (ASX: LEG) has upgraded some already wide iron intersections from two diamond drillholes at the Ngovayang Project in the Cameroon.
The two intersections from the Melombo North target are now:
- 91.2 metres at 23.1% iron (previously 94.85 metres at 17.6% iron); and
- 105.4 metres at 29.5% iron (previously 58.42 metres at 22.8% iron).
Mark Wilson, managing director, said "These drill results confirm the large scale and high quality potential of the Ngovayang Project, particularly when you consider the high grade (plus 70% iron) and low impurity magnetite concentrate we reported earlier this year.
“We have only drill tested Eseka, Melombo North and Melombo West so far, and our objective of ranking as many targets as possible this year with drilling activity is on track. We look forward to the news flow as the work progresses."
On top of the upgrades, Legend also said that the fact “magnetic” rocks of variable intensity and thickness have been intersected in nine of the ten drillholes at Melombo North, demonstrates the magnetite potential of the target and within the project generally.
The news flow is expected to continue for Legend in the short term, with another four holes to be diamond drilled at Melombo West targeting a 6 kilometre long aeromagnetic feature associated with magnetite gneiss.
The portable rig will then move to Melombo East for as 16 hole program.
What helps to highlight the potential of Ngovayang, is that earlier in the year Legend struck a rail and port access agreement with fellow Australian Cameroon iron ore company Sundance Resources (ASX: SDL).
The letter of intent provides for the two Australian based companies with iron ore assets in the country to examine ways for Legend to use Sundance’s proposed infrastructure and rail and port haulage.
The infrastructure forms part of Mbalam Iron Ore Project located in Cameroon and Congo in central West Africa.
Both Sundance’s Mbalam Project and Legend’s project are located in the southern region of the Republic of Cameroon, with the proposed rail route being developed by Sundance passing in close proximity to Ngovoyang.
In total Legend has an extensive 3900 square kilometre land holding in the country.
