Vital Metals (ASX: VML) has commenced its Phase1 Reverse Circulation Drilling Programme at its Doulnia Gold Project in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Doulnia is located centrally located within the 1200km long “Bole” Birrimian Greenstone Belt which extends in a NE direction from Ivory Coast through Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger.
The Phase 1 Drill Programme is designed to test outcropping quartz veins, active artisanal workings, rock chip and trench sample sites with values greater than 5g/t Au, and gold-in soil anomalies greater than 250ppb Au.
Drilling will be within the Kollo Prospect which is the most intensively explored portion of the Doulnia tenements.
The Phase 1 Drill Programme is planned to complete 25 drill holes for a total of 1730m by 29th April 2010. 1m drill samples will be submitted for assay on a weekly basis, with first results due within 20 working days of submission.
Vital Metals have recently signed a contract to fly a high resolution aeromagnetic survey over the Doulnia tenements, scheduled for completion within the 2nd quarter of 2010.
Soil and rock chip sampling and geological mapping of the well-exposed lithologies will continue up to the commencement of the wet season around June 2010.
The company said phase 1 drill results and the ongoing exploration activities outlined above, will be integrated to generate new drill targets for the Phase 2 drill programme, planned for to commence at the cessation of the wet season in November 2010.
Vital Metals shares rose 17% to 10 cents in trading today.
