Energia Minerals starts drilling at Nyang uranium project, shares surge

Energia Minerals (ASX: EMX) has updated its operations and 2010 uranium exploration programs within its extensive portfolio of mineral projects in Australia and Italy.

Diamond drilling is underway at Carley Bore in the Nyang Project (Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia) to test previously discovered uranium mineralization.

Previous intercepts from Aircore drilling at Carley Bore include 20m @ 625ppm U3O8, 15m @ 522ppm U3O8 and 8m @ 701ppm U3O8.

Drilling is aiming to confirm previous results, extract bulk samples and, subject to core recovery, underpin a maiden JORC resource for Carley Bore.

Multiple untested palaeochannels prospective for uranium mineralization have been identified from preliminary interpretation of extensive gravity surveys completed at Nyang (3,175 stations) and the Onslow Project (1,581 stations), for a total of 485 line kilometres.

Keren Paterson, Managing Director, said a recent visit to Italy by company representatives to meet with various Government Departments involved in considering Energia’s uranium exploration tenement applications, was received positively.

Energia Minerals shares rose 21% to 14 cents in trading today.
