Toronto-based Cadillac Ventures (CVE:CDC) announced Thursday the initial results from the final hole of its "tooth target" infill drilling program at the Thierry Mine complex in northwestern Ontario, hitting the main mineralized horizon as anticipated.
The Thierry mine was last in operation under UMEX in the early 1980s, leaving significant underground development in place. Since re-acquiring the project, Cadillac has been focused on adding to the resource in the immediate area of the mine by drilling a gap in the current deposit model, referred to as the tooth target area. The company also managed to conduct other successful drill programs at Thierry this year, expanding the strike length both to the east and the west.
The initial results for hole CV-11-05, the last deep hole drilled into the "tooth" shaped void, returned from the main zone an intersection of 1.69% copper and 0.133% nickel over 19.4 feet. Within this, 3.38% copper and 0.156% nickel were assayed over 3.9 feet.
Other notable intercepts included 1.76% copper and 0.158% nickel over 5.2 feet.
"We are pleased that this final hole successfully demonstrates the continuity of mineralization at depth in the void at the Thierry Mine Project," said president and CEO, Norman Brewster.
"The exploration update previously released, combined with the success of the last three holes in the tooth, is further proof of management's conviction that the Thierry Mine merits re-opening.
"This success at depth, combined with the expansion along strike in both directions, will have a positive impact on the revised 43-101 resource we have commenced at the Thierry Mine."
The Thierry Mine is mainly a copper resource, but also includes nickel, silver, gold, platinum and palladium deposits. The tooth infill drilling program began in the fall of 2010, and consisted of six holes, with 22,367 feet of drilling.
Currently, Thierry has a measured and indicated mineral resource of 6.2 million tonnes at a grade of 1.92% Cu, and an additional inferred resource of 8.4 million tonnes at a grade of 1.79% Cu.
Cadillac is now drilling off the K1-1 project, a separate occurrence to the east of the Thierry Mine project, but on the same Thierry property. The new drill program is designed to undercut known mineralization at the deposit, as well as drill for extensions along strike.
