International Stem Cell appoints senior vice president

California-based International Stem Cell Corp. (OTC:ISCOE) announced on Tuesday that Kurt May, a senior business executive and biotech entrepreneur, will join the company as senior vice president.
Prior to joining International Stem Cell, Kurt May will finish off his services as faculty member at the University of San Diego’s School of Business Administration.
In his new role, May will work directly with CEO Andrey Semechkin in implementing the company’s business model and building revenue streams to support stem cell research.
In addition, his responsibilities will include mergers and acquisitions, and the development of new international collaborations, the company said in a news release.
Since 2001, May has founded and led a privately owned biotech company, Psynomics Inc. He was also a senior executive with GTE Corp., where he benefited from 23 years of  management experience, and served as executive vice president and COO for PriceSmart Inc. (NASDAQ: PSMT).
“May strengthens an accomplished management team at ISCO, and I am delighted that we attracted a professional of his calibre to our company," said ISCOE’s CEO, Andrey Semechkin.
International Stem Cell Corp. is a biotechnology company with a focus on the therapeutic applications of human parthenogentic stem cells and the development and commercialization of cell-based research and cosmetic products.
The company has developed a method to derive stem cells similar to embryonic stem cells without the need for fertilized eggs.
