Implant Sciences (OTC:IMSC) Monday reported the appointment of Bill McGann as chief operating officer and as a member of the board of directors.
The
high-tech supplier of systems and sensors for homeland security markets
saw its stock rise 1.72 percent to 59 cents each in trade on Monday.
Under
his new role, McGann will oversee the company’s product development and
advancements within its technology and manufacturing processes. Since
April 2011, McGann has been a strategic advisor to Implant Sciences'
chief executive Glenn D. Bolduc.
With over 70 research proposals
to his name, he has authored 20 scientific publications and over 25
patents in the nuclear, chemical and biological detection technologies.
McGann,
who holds a Ph.D in physical chemistry from the University of
Connecticut, created "Entry Scan" the world’s first passenger
walk-through screening system for explosives.
As a pioneer in
the explosive trace detection industry, he co-founded Ion Track
instruments, the first explosive trace detection provider to get TSA
certified.
Subsequently, Ion Track was sold to General Electric (NYSE:GE) for $190 million, and became a core product offering in GE’s homeland security portfolio.
After
the sale, McGann became chief technology officer of GE Security.
Additionally, he has served as senior scientist at Radiation Monitoring
Devices Inc., a research company, specializing in high-energy nuclear
spectroscopy.
Most recently, McGann was vice-president of engineering of global fire products at United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
"This
is a major milestone in our Company's development and we are delighted
Bill has chosen our Company as he re-enters the Homeland Defence
market," Implant Sciences' chief executive Glenn D. Bolduc said.
"We
believe his interest in advancing our technologies, products and market
position is a huge testament to the potential he sees for Implant
Sciences' role in the ETD (explosive trace detection) security space."
Implant
Sciences' systems are used by private companies and government agencies
to screen baggage, cargo, vehicles, among other objects, and people for
the detection of trace amounts of explosives.
The QS-H150 is a
handheld explosives trace detector that rapidly detects trace amounts of
a number of military, commercial, and homemade explosives. The QS-H150
uses no radioactive materials.
Implant's other main product, the
Quantum Sniffer QS-B220, which was introduced in May 2011, is a trace
detector that uses ion mobility spectrometry to identify a number of
military, commercial and homemade explosives and narcotic substances.
The
benchtop explosives and narcotics detector is suited for a number of
security settings, including high-traffic airports, borders, and
prisons.
In December, the QS-B220 device received CE Certification, an important step for generating sales in Europe, and in February,
achieved ASTM E2520-07 certification.
