Vancouver-based Mineral explorer Great Basin Gold (TSE:GBG) said Monday that it has appointed Dana Roets as Chief Operating Officer.
Roets, who replaces Johan Oelofse, is a qualified mining engineer and an alumnus of the University of Pretoria.
In February 2010, he was appointed VP of Corporate Development with Great Basin Gold, before joining Anglo Platinum in the middle of this year.
He began his mining career at Gold Fields’ St. Helena gold mine in South Africa, and then spent two years as general manager at the Oryx gold mine.
He was also managing director of Kloof Mines before spending four years as managing director of Gold Fields’ Free State Mines and vice president and head of operations at Beatrix Gold Mine.
Great Basin’s CEO, Ferdi Dippenaar, said: "His experience in the design and project management of large capital projects will prove equally valuable at this particular time, as we are progressing with two projects: the build-up of production at our Burnstone Mine in South Africa and the advancement of our Hollister Project in Nevada, U.S."
Great Basin Gold develops and explores precious metal deposits. Its properties include the Hollister gold project, which is located on the Carlin Trend goldfield in Nevada, and the Burnstond gold mine that rests in the Witwatersrand Basin goldfields in South Africa.
