Montezuma Mining Company targets copper anomalies on 6kms of strike at Butcherbird

Montezuma Mining Company (ASX: MZM) has identified an extensive 6 kilometres of strike at the Butcherbird shear zone from IP, aeromagnetic and EM surveys - and will now follow up high priority targets with a reverse circulation drilling campaign.

The drilling program will comprise up to 5000 metres spread over multiple targets, and will be conducted within the wholly owned Butcherbird Manganese/Copper Project.

In addition, drilling will also follow up copper sulphide mineralisation intersected beneath the Butcherbird Copper Mine.

6 kilometre corridor

The geophysical anomalies lie within a plus 6 kilometre corridor along or adjacent to the Butcherbird shear zone.

Previously reconnaissance drilling by Montezuma at one location along this shear zone confirmed the presence of significant copper sulphide mineralisation.

Highlights included 18 metres at 0.63% copper and 859 parts per million (ppm) cobalt from 154 metres, including 1 metre at 2.43% copper and 0.55% cobalt, and 10 metres at 0.82% copper and 581ppm cobalt from 180 metres, including 3 metres at 1.94% copper and 0.12% cobalt.

Importantly - an Aboriginal Area Survey clearance has been completed over the main target areas which will allow the company to expand the scope of the program with any early exploration success.

If the planned reconnaissance program further confirms the occurrence of copper sulphides along the shear zone, the company is of the view that this may represent a significant new discovery and further resources will be brought to bear to accelerate exploration for copper within the project.
