Aviva Corporation (ASX: AVA, BSE: AVIVA) has appointed the experienced Pieter Britz as a non-executive director of the company, with Britz joining the board as a representative of The Sentient Group - which is a cornerstone investor with a 10.5% holding.
Britz is a registered professional engineer with a wealth of experience in the resources industry since the early 1990's, and began his career in mining in South Africa where he worked as an engineer at the Sishen iron ore mine from 1992-1997.
Britz then moved to Australia in 2004 to set up Royal Bank of Canada's investment banking division in Sydney, and joined The Sentient Group in early 2007 as investment professional.
Britz comes to the board at a very interesting time, with several African projects moving forward at speed.
A recent highlight for the company was earlier in the month with more high grade intersections from the Bumbo Base Metals Project in West Kenya, which included:
- 20 metres at 3.91% copper, 5.43% zinc, 1.06 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 55.63g/t silver from 32 metres; and
- 8.00 metres at 4.53% copper, 0.88% zinc, 0.90g/t gold and 55.97g/t silver from 39 metres.
