Great Panther Silver adds industry veteran to board as it strengthens team

Great Panther Silver (TSE:GPR) (NYSE:GPL) has taken a step Tuesday to further strengthen its executive team with the appointment of Geoff Chater to its board of directors, and the recent addition of two senior personnel to the Vancouver-based miner’s management team in Mexico.
Chater, who serves as director of several resource companies such as Luna Gold (TSE:LGC), brings with him more than 24 years of experience in the mineral and mining industries of North America, South America and Africa. He is the principal of Namron Advisors consultancy and recently served as president of Valley High Ventures.
Chater was also manager of corporate relations for First Quantum Minerals (TSE:FM) from 1999 to 2008, and spent time working for such industry names as international explorer and miner Eldorado Gold Corporation (TSE: ELD), other gold miners including Nevada Pacific Gold and Fairbanks Gold, and Singapore-based venture capital fund Ivanhoe Capital.
Also recently added to the Great Panther senior management team in Mexico, the site of the company’s main area of activity, is Juan Manuel Flores, who is joining as vice president, operations, and Cesar Epifanio, who is taking on the position of vice president, safety, health and environment (SH&E).
Flores brings with him over 35 years of industry experience, while the company says Epifanio has a "long history of success in SH&E" with multi-national companies. Both executives are to be based in Guanajuato.
Great Panther's flagship operations are located in Mexico, where the company is focused on the mining of precious metals at its two operating mines, Topia and Guanajuato, where the company estimates metal production for the year will come in between 2.4 million and 2.5 million silver equivalent ounces.
The company is also in the process of developing its San Ignacio project, with anticipated production next year, and has two exploration projects, El Horcon and Santa Rosa located in the country.
Great Panther is also pursuing additional mining opportunities within Latin America, with the goal of adding to its portfolio of mineral properties.
“Mr. Chater's addition to the Board will provide increased depth in the mining industry with particular emphasis on the capital markets sector,” said a company statement announcing the news.
“Mr. Flores and Mr. Epifanio have already strengthened the in-country management team that oversees Great Panther's existing operations and will take San Ignacio into production next year in a socially and environmentally responsible fashion with safety of our personnel as our number one priority."
