Dragon Mining: high grade gold intersections continue from Kuusamo in Finland

Dragon Mining (ASX: DRA) has now wrapped up the fourth phase of drilling at the Juomasuo deposit at the Kuusamo Gold Project in northern Finland, which has delivered a string of positive gold intersections for the company.

Highlights from the last six holes include 5.1 metres at 5.3 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 247 metres and 3.6 metres at 15.1g/t gold from 281 metres.

The latest drilling campaign comprised 14 holes for 4100 metres between April and August, and was designed to examine the strike and depth extensions of identified lodes in the northern portion of the Juomasuo deposit.

This campaign has returned a series of high grade intercepts including the previously released 25.6 metres at 9.66g/t gold from 60 metres.

This intercept occurs within a broad zone of 81.4 metres at 4.01g/t gold from 52.1 metres, and is located in the eastern portion of the Juomasuo gold deposit.

Adding some exploration spice to the mix, the same interval also returned elevated levels of cobalt (1,047 ppm), copper (300 ppm), uranium (697 ppm) and total rare earth oxides (465 ppm) either in conjunction with, or separately from gold mineralisation.

Phase four outcome

The results have confirmed the continuity of identified lodes at Juomasuo, returning grades commensurate with historic intercepts and highlighting the potential of the eastern area, which had previously been subjected to limited shallow drilling.

Multi-element analysis also returned a number of strong cobalt intercepts and elevated levels of rare earth elements, either in conjunction with gold mineralisation or separately, as well as the occurrence of sporadic elevated levels of copper and uranium.

The Juomasuo gold deposit is the largest of the five deposits identified to date on the Kuusamo Gold Project. It comprises a set of closely spaced sub-parallel lodes, which remain open in all directions.

Phase six drilling

Two diamond core rigs are progressing phase six of drilling at Juomasuo, an eight hole 3400 metre campaign that is testing the depth and strike extensions of identified lodes in the southern portion of the deposit.

A third rig is drilling the second campaign of eight holes for 1100 metres at the Hangaslampi deposit, following the completion of a seven hole 1000 metre campaign at the Pohjasvaara deposit.
