Bayfield Ventures Corp. (CVE:BYV) reported Monday additional high grade silver intercepts from its ongoing 100,000 metre drill program at its Burns Block gold-silver project in the Rainy River District of northwestern Ontario.
The property is situated to the east and on strike to Rainy River Resources' (TSE:RR) multi-million ounce gold deposit.
Highlights of the latest drilling results include hole RR11-181, which returned 7.2 metres grading a whopping 656.88 grams per tonne (g/t) silver. This follows the previously reported intercept of 7.2 metres at 61.02 g/t gold in late November. The hole was drilled at a vertical depth of 40 metres, the company said.
Meanwhile, hole RR11-180 intersected 5.0 metres grading 277.82 g/t silver, accompanied by the previous intercept of 5.0 metres at 64.66 g/t gold.
These holes were part of an east-to-west oriented infill hole drilling program in the northwest corner of Burns Block, designed to further delineate known high grade gold and silver zones, and to explore for additional electrum-bearing fracture zones.
Bayfield said assays for ten additional completed holes are pending.
Other notable results from the east-west infill hole program include 12.00 metres of 9.53 g/t gold and 31.35 g/t silver in hole RR11-182.
The company said more drilling is needed to define both the upper and lower extents of high grade mineralization, which contains both gold-rich and silver-rich portions as well as intercepts that are "very rich" in both gold and silver.
In addition, current drilling near the east boundary of the Burns Block is being carried out to test the high magnetic geophysical anomaly reported last December. Assays are pending.
Bayfield still plans a further 35,000 metres of diamond drilling on its Rainy River properties with the bulk of this drilling to be carried out on the Burns Block. Contracting of a third rig to conduct exploration of the large C Block is still on slate for either this year or early next.
