Peninsula Energy ticks another box towards mining at Lance with air quality permit

Peninsula Energy (ASX: PEN) is continuing the progression towards a mining operation at the Lance uranium projects in Wyoming, U.S.

Peninsula has now received an Air Quality Permit which follows a detailed technical review by the Division of Air Quality of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ/AQD) of more than a year of baseline air quality monitoring, modelling and data analysis by Strata.

Gus Simpson, executive chairman, commented “The grant of the Air Quality Permit is another important step toward achieving full approval for a mining operation at Lance."

The project plans to use the insitu recovery method to extract uranium and produce up to a maximum of three million pounds per year of yellowcake (U3O8).

Following the WDEQ/AQD’s proposed approval of the request as published August 11, 2011 and in accordance with regulations, the public was afforded a 30 day period in which to submit comments concerning the application, and an opportunity for a public hearing.

No comments were received.

On expiration of the public comment period and on the basis of the information provided to the WDEQ/AQD, approval to construct the Ross ISR Project as described in the application has now been granted pursuant to Chapter 6, Section 2 of the regulations.

The Lance projects host a resource of 41.4 million pounds of uranium.

Peninsula said that work on the Definitive Feasibility Study, Expanded Economic Study, Owner’s Review and Optimization studies are progressing well.
